Online Gaming Site Doesn't Play Around with Breaches
When your site processes more transactions annually than the London Stock Exchange, you'd better care deeply about breach prevention, says Ionut Ionescu, Head of Threat Management at Betfair."

The gaming industry, because we have similar issues with the banking industry, is exposed to similar kinds of threats," says Ionescu, discussing his company's approach to information security and risk management.

Denial-of-service attacks, attempted hacks, social engineering - each of these breach threats is a risk to Betfair and its customers. But while the threat landscape evolves, so do customers' security expectations.

"The customers are becoming more mature," he says. "They're asking about security more. They're using these criteria - security, risk management, threat management - when they rate gaming operators. Security and information risk management are very important to our customers, and we try to take them seriously as well."

In an exclusive interview about threats and preparedness, Ionescu discusses:

  • Today's top security threats;
  • Customers' evolving expectations of security;
  • Advice for people entering the security profession today.
